Why Artemis ?

From early school days, I have been fascinated with the Greek and Roman mythology.  My favorite was Artemis (Greek name) / Diana (Roman name).

Artemis was said to be the daughter of Zeus and Leto.  Artemis is the twin sister to Apollo.  As Apollo was god of the sun, Artemis was goddess of the moon.  Artemis is also known as goddess of the hunt - proficient with her silver bow and silver arrows.  Despite this, she is also known as the protectress of wild animals and the wilderness  A number of wild animals are sacred to her including the hind (deer), bear, boar, and lion.

I've always had a particular love for animals and for the wilderness.  My bachelor of science degree is even in Wildlife Biology.  When I began using email accounts, my user name was always Artemis or Artemisia.

I began breeding lovebirds in 1993 and a few years later decided to create an aviary name.  I was having the hardest time thinking of a name that fit me and wasn't already in use.  A friend of mine thoughtfully suggested Artemis Aviary.  I've been using the name ever since (thank you Janet!).
